Welcome to our premier PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Hair Loss Clinic in Kelowna, BC, where we specialize in restoring confidence through innovative treatments.
Understanding PRP and Hair Loss:
PRP therapy has emerged as a revolutionary solution for hair loss, harnessing the body’s natural healing power to stimulate hair follicles and promote hair growth. However, it’s important to note that PRP treatments may not be suitable for all types of hair loss. Here’s a more detailed explanation of how PRP works:
1. Collection of Platelet-Rich Plasma:
The process begins with a simple blood draw from the patient, usually from the arm.
The blood is then spun in a centrifuge machine, separating its components. This separation isolates the platelet-rich plasma, which is abundant in growth factors and essential proteins crucial for tissue repair and regeneration.
2. Concentrated Growth Factors:
Platelets are tiny blood cells that play a significant role in the body’s natural healing process. They contain a high concentration of growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and others.
These growth factors are responsible for stimulating tissue regeneration, collagen production, and promoting the formation of new blood vessels.
3. Application to the Scalp:
Once the PRP is prepared, it’s applied topically or injected directly into the scalp, targeting areas affected by hair loss or thinning.
The growth factors in the PRP work to stimulate dormant hair follicles, promoting their growth phase and increasing the thickness and quality of existing hair.
4. Stimulation of Hair Growth:
PRP therapy aims to rejuvenate and strengthen hair follicles, improving their capability to produce healthy hair.
By stimulating cellular activity and promoting blood flow to the hair follicles, PRP encourages the growth of new hair and enhances the overall health of the scalp.
5. Multiple Sessions for Optimal Results:
Typically, a series of PRP sessions are recommended to achieve optimal results. The frequency and number of sessions may vary based on individual needs and the severity of hair loss.
6. Maintenance and Follow-Up:
Following the initial treatment sessions, maintenance sessions may be recommended to sustain the results and support ongoing hair health.
Suitability and Efficacy:
It’s essential to note that while PRP therapy has shown promising results for many individuals experiencing hair loss, its effectiveness may vary depending on various factors, including the underlying cause of hair loss and the individual’s overall health. As mentioned earlier, this is why a consultation with a specialized dermatologist is crucial to determine the suitability of PRP therapy for a specific case of hair loss.
PRP therapy represents a non-invasive, safe, and potentially effective option for hair loss, harnessing the body’s natural healing mechanisms to promote hair growth and improve hair density for suitable candidates.

About
During a hair loss consultation, Dr. Garnis-Jones examines their hair and carefully examines a patient’s medical history. Before making a diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan for their hair loss, Dr. Garnis-Jones may need to request extensive blood tests to determine if part of the hair loss problem is related to hormone issues or other internal problems such as a lack of vitamins. In some cases a biopsy will need to be taken of the scalp. Typically, there is a 3-4 week wait for the results of blood tests and biopsy’s. We understand the time-sensitive nature of losing your hair and appreciate the patience required for the dermatologist to make the necessary investigations.
